Forty works by 37 Arkansas artists have been chosen for the annual Small Works on Paper touring exhibition, which opens Jan. 5 at the Batesville Area Arts Council Gallery, and the following artists will receive purchase awards: Kathy Attwood of Eureka Springs; Margo Duvall, the late Amy Edgington and Robert Reep, all of Little Rock; Clarke Galusha of Norphlet; Matt Kaye of Camden; Penny Jo Pausch of Jonesboro; David Rackley and Rachel Trusty of Russellville; and Steven Vickers of Van Buren. Purchase awards become part of the show’s permanent collection.
The Arkansas Arts Council exhibition was juried by Kati Toivanen of the University of Missouri at Kansas City. Other artists whose work, restricted in size to no larger than 18 by 24 inches, was selected for exhibition include John W. Ahlen, Joshua Asante, Susan Chambers, Kasten Searles, Kimberly Kwee, Brian Madden, Laura Raborn, Catherine Slater, Stacy Spangler and Tod Swiecichowski of Little Rock; Angela Green, Robin Miller-Bookhout and John Watson of North Little Rock; James Berg and Janet Gade-Malone of Hot Springs; Tim LaTourette and Sabine Schmidt of Fayetteville; Lori Halley and Stephanie McLeod of Springdale; Gwen Haverland and Steven G. Vickers of Van Buren; Warren Criswell of Benton; Sandy Barksdale of Cotter; Matt Kaye of Camden; Jason McCann of Maumelle; Melissa Cowper-Smith of Morrilton; Clarke Galusha of Norphlet; L.S. Eldridge of Rogers; Thad Flenniken of Royal, and Judy Wright Walter of Texarkana.
The Batesville gallery is at 226 E. Main St. An opening reception and gallery talk is set for 5-7 p.m. Jan. 8.
