The Little Rock Zoo would like to thank everyone who came out to last week’s 10th Annual Wild Wines event hosted by the Arkansas Zoological Foundation, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission of supporting the growth and development of the capital city’s zoo. This year’s event was presented by Wright, Lindsey and Jennings, with lots of tasty beverages provided by O’Looney’s Wine and Liquor. In addition to the hundreds of wines served, more than 50 restaurants participated this year.

Wild Wines is about more than great food and drink, though, it’s about community support for the Little Rock Zoo. While the Zoo does receive financial support from the city, additional funding is required to keep animals safe and happy so that people from all over the state can enjoy the habitats and exhibits. In addition, funds raised from Wild Wines allow the Zoo to embark on new projects like the following:

*Construction of a new penguin exhibit in 2011.
*Construction of a new cheetah exhibit in 2012.
*Hiring of a professional architectural firm to design a new master plan for the development of the Zoo’s facility in 2013.
*Purchase of a new miniature train ride in 2014.
*Construction of a new Arkansas Heritage Farm set to open in spring 2016.

Did you miss out on the event last weekend? You can still support the Zoo by becoming a member. Membership gets you a year of admission to the Zoo, plus other goodies and benefits—it’s one of the best deals for fun in Arkansas.

Thank you again to everyone who worked, participated, ate and drank at this year’s festival. With your support, we can continue making the Little Rock Zoo a destination for fun, education and conservation.
