Well, the phones are finally hooked up, the shelves stocked and the Health Department is fixing the name on the certificate of inspection from Burno’s to Bruno’s. That means Bruno’s Little Italy Deli, a year in planning and months in construction, will open for real on Monday, Aug. 8, owner Gio Bruno says.
The deli, at 308 Main St., right next door to Bruno’s Little Italy restaurant, will be open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays to supply you with an Italian lunch and maybe sell you some Italian groceries, too. The menu will include a multitude of Poor Boys, including Jimmy’s (salami, pepperoni, prosciutto, provolone, mozzarella, lettuce, mayo, tomato); Italian sausage, meatball, chicken, veal and eggplant, all ala Parmigiano; roast beef, three cheese and Verdure Grigliate, which is a much nicer way to say “veggie.” Also green salads, pasta salad, soups, “French Bread Pizza” and sides.
The grocery items will include cheeses, meats, olives and so forth.
There will be nine bar stools along a wall counter but most of the business will be takeout, Bruno says. A walk-up window should open in a couple of weeks, once the kitchen is in its groove.
