Emergent Arts, the Hot Springs gallery that gave us “The V Show,” an excellent show of vaginal imagery, opens “Defying Gender: An Exhibition of Art Defying Gender Expectations” in the Circle Gallery with a reception 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 7, Hot Springs Gallery Walk night.

The exhibition will “explore the continuum of gender,” the announcing press release said, and is timed to coincide with Gay Pride Month. Jennifer Sanderson of Little Rock was selected as community curator for her concept of the show.

A gallery crawl in partnership with the Hot Springs LGBT Alliance will leave Emergent Arts (341-A Whittington Ave.) at 7:30 p.m. and wrap up at 8:30 p.m. with a Pride Celebration featuring performances by Suki Pearl, Xavier Jackson, Celina Chambers, Raven Rose and others at Grateful Head’s Gin Joint at 100 Exchange St.

Grateful Head will donate proceeds from a signature drink to be served at the celebration to Lucie’s Place, which serves LGBTQ young adults; Raven’s Nest is donating the drag and burlesque entertainment and LaRue Framing will donate a $200 gift certificate to be raffled off to raise funds for Emergent Arts and Lucie’s Place. The Circle Gallery Facebook page will post updates on the event.
