Hot Springs A&P head Steve Arrison has announced by email the death of sculptor JeanFo, a Hot Springs resident for more than three decades. One of his large abstract steel sculptures, “La Joie de Vivre,” stood in front of the Statehouse Convention Center for a time. The artist said his forms were sometimes inspired by pieces of wood.

JeanFo, who was 89 when he died Jan. 5, moved back to France four years ago. Jeff Waddle, a Little Rock artist and friend of JeanFo’s, restored several of the artist’s works for sale to help JeanFo return to France to be cared for by family. The Galleries at Library Square in the Roberts Library, then known as the Butler Center Galleries in the Arkansas Studies Institute, exhibited many of the restored pieces in 2016.
