I Was Afraid

The last time Little Rock rock outfit I Was Afraid played live was in July of 2019. They never broke up or announced a formal hiatus, but logistical challenges have kept the band — aptly referred to as “dreamy grunge” by music blog IDIOTEQ — off of the stage for over four years. This weekend, they return with two stacked bills.

Tonight, they’ll perform at Vino’s, with support from Morbid Visionz, Zashed, Second Life, Stressor and The Chores. Tomorrow, they’ll hop over to White Water Tavern, where they’ll be joined by Colour Design, Peach Blush, Pett and Zilla.

Each lineup has its fair share of heaviness, but if you prefer screams over melody, I’d recommend the Friday show. Both gigs start at 7 p.m. and cost $15. Snag your tickets here (Vino’s) and here (White Water).

Though I Was Afraid plans to perform more and release new music in the future, singer Darby Johnson now lives in California, meaning this might be your only chance to see them for a good while.
