In all of the hot weather sweeping across the nation, I have become more than a little concerned about Congressman “Scowling” Steve Womack, working so hard these past few months in our nation’s capital against the forces of darkness. Thank God that particular long dark midnight of the soul is over, and the House of Representatives can get back to the work the American people put them there for, restoring the economy.

With a few side trips into English as our national language bills, carrying your concealed weapon across state lines and a few other stops into weirdness, that is.

Okay, taught those New Wold Order folks a lesson. What’s next on the agenda, folks?

Oh.

A five week break from Congress.

Well, that’s very nice, I suppose. You have worked hard, impersonating the Knights Who Say Nee since January, but still:

Five Weeks?

Oh, yes, there will be the photo ops, and the meetings with constituents, but five weeks?

I mean, I’d give some Democrats five weeks – at least the ones who still have the integrity to publicly support unions and the working class, but Congress as a whole, specially after they have put the entire country through the trauma of the past few months?

Hell, no.

I’d suggest that these folks need to be putting in some serious overtime, but I’m afraid of what might emerge, now that they realize that they can, indeed, bully pretty much everybody in sight, be it media, the White House, fellow members of Congress or the American people.

But five weeks?

I mean, the endangered species known as the American worker would not dare even fantasize about having five weeks off work, unless they had suffered a serious injury on the job. What kind of worker can honestly expect so many days off work? Not American workers, Fractured Reader. But there is another kind of worker who can take longer vacations without society guilt-tripping them into working longer weeks.

The kind of workers who live in countries that GOP congressmen (and their lords and masters in the Tea Party) so often like to sneer at – those who live in Europe.

So let me get this straight.

Comrade Womack (and I feel more than justified in calling him that today) not only ignores calls from his constituents to vote to raise taxes, but he then takes off on a five week recess, when he should have his scowling butt in Washington, doing some work for the American people?

Well, have a good time, Steve.

Of course, it doesn’t mean that we’ll be polite when you call

From Comrade Womack’s website:

One of the most important aspects of Congress is developing, making, and monitoring laws. New laws are created every week. As a Member of Congress, I am trying to be actively involved in sponsoring and drafting legislation about issues that are important to you. Please contact my offices to share your thoughts on current legislation that may affect you, your family and your community.

This is interesting, considering how one of his office staff got so pissy with a voter who called last week with a view contrary to Steve’s.

Oh, and President Obama – about that birthday present . . .

So we get this letter in the mail last week suggesting that it might be a nice thing if we sent a nice “birthday card” (which was enclosed with the letter) along to the president, along with a nice donation to something called “Obama for America.”

We could have sent $50, $100, $250 or “other $____”

Well, I picked Other, but I sent along birthday advice instead of cash, sort of like your cheapskate relatives always used to do. I’m sure that my advice will be respected just as much as the phone calls and emails from Americans to GOP congressmen telling them they should compromise with the Democrats and White House on the deficit talks.

Just as well that contributions from labor unions (as well as corporations) are prohibited, for nary a word was seen on the cheery letter about the ongoing attacks on unions, collective bargaining or any of a host of the other ugliness of that particular Class Warfare front being carried on by the GOP these days.

Nothing about the attacks on voting rights in this country, though, of course, the votes of us who are still eligible to vote in 2012 will no doubt be appreciated.

There was a nice line about how the president has defended Planned Parenthood. Well, okay, that did make me feel better, because once this White House draws a line in the sand . . .
