Blue Hog Report: How Stacy Hurst tried to use a 4-year-old in her state House campaign

David Ramsey has inspected this situation thoroughly already, but Blue Hog Report has done further analysis of Republican Stacy Hurst's attempt to use the nursery school assignment of her Democratic opponent's four-year-old in her race for state House of Representatives. His take of Hurst; "If at first you don't succeed, lie, lie again."

Mark Martin's excuse for tax cheating needs a fact-check

Secretary of State Mark Martin, caught cheating on his property taxes, claims he's a victim of a political witch hunt and also claims he's a victim of a mistake easily missed in the mortgage process. A check of original documents in a similar case by Asa Hutchinson disproved the excuse in Asa's case. Time to check Martin's documents.

A soaking wet open line

Week is out and the line is open with our video roundup on Mark Martin, Dogpatch, the Ferguson shooting, and looming ice-bucket challenges.

Another Republican tax cheat? Blue Hog notes Secretary of State Mark Martin's improper homestead tax exemption

Could another Arkansas politician end up in hot water over homestead tax credits? Remember, Republican gubernatorial candidate Asa Hutchinson improperly claimed homestead property tax exemptions in two counties for four years — 2008 through 2011 — though state law limits you to one $350 exemption. The Blue Hog Report blog (which has a history of breaking stories that turn out to be headaches for Arkansas Republicans) has done some digging and it appears that Secretary of State Mark Martin took the homestead exemption on both a house in Rogers and a house in Praire Grove, at least since 2008 and possibly as far back as 2003.

Notes from the road: Herman's Ribhouse review and the curious Internet filtering at Ark. Supreme Court

Killing time in Fayetteville this morning, I have a mini-review of the venerable Herman's Ribhouse and a report on some highly suspicious Internet filtering discovered yesterday at the office building that houses the Arkansas Supreme Court and Court of Appeals.

The real story about the judicial system in Arkansas

The big story isn't campaign finance funny business except to the extent that it reflects a much larger story about justice in Arkansas. Gilbert Baker and co. have worked for year in the employ of forces who want to make it harder to sue for damages in Arkansas courts: the so-called "tort reform" campaign of big business.

Statement from Rhonda Wood appears to violate judicial rules

The knocks against Court of Appeals Judge Rhonda Wood keep piling up. She's been at the vanguard of the Republican, business-lobby takeover of the non-partisan judiciary. She's played loose with the facts on contributions to her unopposed campaign for Supreme Court by the nursing home lobby. Now, after responding to questions raised by Blue Hog Report about her eligibility to run for Supreme Court, Blue Hog's Matt Campbell argues that Wood has violated judicial rules.

Here come the lawsuits on judicial candidates: suits filed against Judge H.G. Foster and Angela Byrd

Separate lawsuits have been filed against Judge H.G. Foster and Angela Byrd, asking that they be disqualified from running in next month's judicial races because of issues with past suspensions of law licenses for non-payment of bar dues. These sorts of suits were inevitable in the wake of Circuit Judge John Cole's recent ruling disqualifying lawyer Valerie Thompson Bailey from challenging Circuit Judge Tim Fox.

Blue Hog raises more questions about the suspended law licenses of judicial candidates. Next up: Judges Tim Fox and Rhonda Wood.

A recent ruling from Circuit Judge John Cole disqualified Valerie Thompson Bailey from challenging Circuit Court Judge Tim Fox. A past suspension in her law license disqualified her, Cole ruled; though it was merely an administrative suspension, "a suspension is a suspension is a suspension" Cole found. Now it turns out that...Judge Time Fox had his license suspended too. And Arkansas Appeals Court Judge Rhonda Wood too. Are they disqualified too?

Judicial candidates may face problems with suspended law licenses

Will suspended licenses disqualify judicial candidates from running?

Maggio: unfit for the bench

Blue Hog Report's Matt Campbell this week uncovered Circuit Judge Mike Maggio's prolific posting under the pseudonym "geauxjudge" on an LSU fan website, Tiger Droppings. Maggio gave away his identity with personal references. Much of his writing was juvenile. It was sexist, racist, homophobic and outlandishly scornful of Arkansas, too.

Mark Martin continues to flout law on attorney spending

KATV reported yesterday on Blue Hog Report's finding that Secretary of State Mark Martin continues to pay fees for outside legal counsel despite the ruling by a Pulaski circuit judge that state law clearly requires the secretary of state to get attorney general approval before hiring outside counsel.
