Little Rock businessman John Burkhalter, a Beebe appointee to the state Hiighway Commission, arrived at the Capitol Zoning District Commission meeting this evening with a compromise for the office building he wants to build at Sixth and Woodlane across from the Capitol.

If I were to guess, I'd guess grassroots organizing has presented a stumbling block for a chamber of commerce/insider fat cat and the city of Little Rock is doing all it can to buy more time for the fat cat.

Beebe's boy wins a round

A huge political backer of Gov. Mike Beebe, Highway Commissioner John Burkhalter, won a round at the Capitol Zoning District Commission this evening when the commission voted unanimously to put out for public hearing a proposal to change rules governing land use around the Capitol to lift a three-story height limit so Burkhalter can build a six-story building at Capitol and Woodlane.

The state took control of planning issues around the state Capitol and Governor's Mansion some years ago to protect those historic structures.
