Same-sex marriage case shows as 'submitted,' could mean ruling soon

An interesting but easily-overlooked new development in the same-sex marriage appeal currently being considered by the Arkansas Supreme Court: the case now shows as "submitted," on the court docket and in electronic filings. While a spokesperson for the court said that has little significance and gives no hint as to when the court might issue an official ruling in the case, another source with direct knowledge of the procedures of the court said that it likely means the court has voted and an opinion is forthcoming soon. That source says we could see a ruling as early as next Thursday.

Southern Baptist prez Ronnie Floyd vows to stand against same-sex marriage

Speaking to the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting in Columbus, Ohio, Northwest Arkansas megachurch pastor Ronnie Floyd, who serves as the president of the SBC, asked members to take a stand against same-sex marriage, saying God has defined marriage as being between one man and one woman.

Fayetteville to consider new LGBT civil rights ordinance, with call for referendum

Fayetteville City Council member Adella Gray will announced tomorrow a new city civil rights ordinance for discussion at the City Council meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. A vote on the ordinance to extend work, housing and public accommodation protection on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity would be the following week, June 16.

This morning, lawyers filed a federal civil rights lawsuit over the shooting death of Bobby Moore, the African-American teenager killed by former Little Rock Police Department officer Josh Hastings at a West Little Rock apartment complex on August 12, 2012. The suit — brought by Moore's mother, Sylvia Perkins — names as defendants Hastings, former LRPD chief Stuart Thomas and the City of Little Rock.
