The Central Arkansas Water Board of Commissioners today approved a comprehensive nondiscrimination resolution that covers hiring, employee benefits and vendors. CAW also extended all employment benefits to all legally married spouses even if Arkansas does not recognize their marriage as legal.

Weekend rally for marriage equality in Russellville draws 300

On Saturday, a group called Pope County for Equality organized a rally in Russellville to show support for marriage equality and LGBTQ civil rights in Arkansas. More than 300 people showed up — quite a significant turnout for a community of under 30,000. Hot Springs city board extends anti-discrimination protections for LGBT city workers, requires same of contractors

The Hot Springs Board of Directors voted last night to pass an ordinance which would extend anti-discrimination protections to include LGBT city workers, and require any vendors who contract with the city to do the same. The ordinance is similar to one passed last month by the Little Rock board.

Ark. transgender group receives $15k grant to study trans health

Andrea Zekis with the Arkansas Trans Equality Coalition announced today that the group has received a $15,000 grant from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute in Washington D.C. The grant will be used to research ways to better serve the medical needs of the trans community in Arkansas, in partnership with UAMS in Little Rock.

U.S. Supreme Court hears landmark same-sex marriage case; crucial Kennedy has questions for both sides

The U.S. Supreme Court is hearing arguments this morning on the consolidation of appeals of rulings in same-sex marriage cases around the country. The justices were split in questioning, as expected, with swing vote Anthony Kennedy giving clues in both directions.
