Mike Beebe on the state of the schools in Arkansas (and Little Rock)

The outgoing governor had some interesting comments about schools in general that didn't exactly fit in the context of that piece but merit further mention here. He also talked a bit about the Little Rock School District.

Two seats on the seven-member Little Rock School Board are up for election on Sept. 16, and incumbents in both zones face challengers fiercely critical of the direction of the city's schools and LRSD superintendent Dexter Suggs. A hopeful view for Little Rock schools

I have long appreciated the balanced and fair reporting of the Arkansas Times and Max Brantley regarding public education in general and the Little Rock School District in particular. My perspective is, however, quite different from that recently expressed in Brantley's June 12 column about the present and future of the LRSD.
