Devotion, decency and the DIY spirit: a history of the Valley of the Vapors Independent Music Festival

What began as an effort to throw on some shows for a few friends who would be in the area to play at South by Southwest led to the accidental formation of a formidable festival. Through the work of Bill Solleder, Shea Childs, Sonny Kay, Bobby Missile and countless volunteers, the Valley of the Vapors Independent Music Festival has been a cornerstone of the DIY scene in Hot Springs since its inception in 2005. In 2021, the festival moved outside to Cedar Glades Park.

Arkansas Shorts Film Festival in Hot Springs this weekend

In addition to entries by Arkansas residents, the festival will screen some of the most buzzed-about North American and international short films, including pictures that have been shown at Sundance, Cannes and Tribeca.
