The show will go on for horror and sci-fi spin-off of LR Film Festival

Former organizers of the Little Rock Film Festival, which ended this year after a nine year run, have confirmed that the Little Rock Picture Show, the horror, fantasy and sci-fi focused spin-off that was part of the LRFF family of film festivals, would continue in conjunction with the River City Comic Expo in June.

Little Rock Film Festival sets 2015 dates, hires new director

The Little Rock Film Festival, now based in the CALS Ron Robinson Theater, has officially announced May 11-17 as its 2015 dates. Additionally, the festival has hired filmmaker and UCA grad Gabe Gentry, who formerly handled the festival's media operations and collaborated on documentary projects with the Renaud Brothers, as its new full-time director. Tonight at the Little Rock Film Festival, Robert Greene is screening his feature length documentary "Actress" tonight at 6 p.m. at the Historic Arkansas Museum. It's really good — one of of our "Ten to Watch" picks — and really fun to hear Green and subject (collaborator?) Brandy Burre talk about it, as they will tonight. Greene's also in town to oversee the LRFF's new cinematic nonfiction slate. Last week, I talked to the filmmaker/editor/critic about what "cinematic nonfiction" means, what his forthcoming book is going to focus on and how he self-identifies as an artist.

Andrew Droz Palermo and Tracy Droz Tragos are cousins, filmmakers and co-directors of the new documentary "Rich Hill," which won the the Documentary Grand Jury Prize at this year's Sundance Film Festival. The film follows three kids and their families in a small town in Missourri, Rich Hill (population 1,396). Variety calls it "an open-hearted portrait of impoverished American life," and Indiewire's Kate Walsh writes, "'Rich Hill' is the type of media object that could and should be put in a time capsule for future generations."

Little Rock Film Festival announces opening night film: 'Happy Valley'

The Little Rock Film Festival is gearing up for its 2014 season, which will be held May 12-18. The Narrative, Documentary and Shorts competition lineups were announced last week, and this afternoon the festival unveiled its opening night film, "Happy Valley," by Amir Bar-Lev, the documentary filmmaker behind "My Kid Could Paint That" and "The Tillman Story."

The Little Rock Film Festival announced the first rounds of its 2014 Narrative and Documentary lineups this afternoon. The list includes the Sundance Special Jury Award-winning doc "The Overnighters," Shawn Christendon's "Before I Disappear" (starring Ron Perlman and Emmy Rossum, based on the 2013 Oscar-winning short), SXSW Audience Award winner "Big Significant Things," Sundance Directing Award-winner "The Case Against 8" and SXSW Grand Jury Award winner "Fort Tilden."

Little Rock Film Festival expands, announces first screenings

The Little Rock Film Festival announced today that it will expand its programming to a full week of screenings for this year's event, which will be held from May 12 to May 18, and for which passes are now on sale. For the first time, most films will screened at the LRFF's new flagship venue, the CALS Ron Robinson Theater, and according to the festival's Creative Director, Brent Renaud, "all venues in 2014 are within biking or walking distance and are easily connected via the River Rail Electric Streetcar Trolley."

The Little Rock Film Festival announced today that the 2014 festival will include a new category devoted to "Cinematic Nonfiction," to be programmed by the filmmaker and writer Robert Greene, who will also present an award for “Extraordinary Achievement in Non-Fiction Cinema.”
