KARK Channel 4 has an interview with an African-American man in Jacksonville who says he has been the victim of racially-fueled harassment and vandalism at his home, including having his dog poisoned, his truck stolen and his garage and its contents destroyed by arson, with the perpetrator spray painting "Move n****r' on the outside of the burned building.

A former inmate who claims she was sexually assaulted over 70 times by former McPherson Womens' Unit chaplain Kenneth Dewitt has filed a federal lawsuit against Dewitt, several staff members at the prison, and officials with the Arkansas Department of Corrections, including former director Ray Hobbs.

Arkansas currently spends half a billion dollars a year on corrections, and, if prison growth continues, the state will have to spend $1.3 billion a year in 2025 — and that's a conservative estimate. These were among the dismal facts Justice Center, a project of the nonprofit Council of State Governments, reminded the Legislative Criminal Justice Task Force of today.

Justice Department launches investigation into alleged sexual abuse at women's prison in Newport

The U.S. Department of Justice announced today that they are launching an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse, sexual harassment by what the DOJ terms "multiple members" of the staff at the Arkansas Department of Correction's McPherson Womens Unit in Newport. The investigation will also reportedly look into the treatment of transgender prisoners there.
