SATURDAY 10/26. SoMa District. $8-$15.
If you are the sort of person who has strong feelings about sugar content (or lack thereof) in your cornbread, here’s a chance to stand around and talk about it with like-minded folks — while eating a multitude of bite-sized samples of cornbread. The Arkansas Cornbread Festival runs down the length of South Main Street between 13th St. and 17th St., with full wheelchair accessibility, and features sets from Dazz & Brie, A Rowdy Faith, Marquis Hunt with percussionist Stephin Booth, Torrey Dulaney, Grace Justified and Amanda Armstrong, plus craft beer from Flyway Brewing, Diamond Bear Brewing Co., Buffalo Brewing Co., Stone’s Throw Brewing and Rebel Kettle, plus non-cornmeal-centric eats from Kona Ice of Little Rock, TMW Kettlecorn, The Big Squeeze, Lee’s Concession, Count Porkula and Juicy J Fish and Chicken. Come chat with local nonprofits, all sorts of makers and, of course, with cornbread competitors.
A $10 ticket ($8 in advance) gets you in, and a $15 “Cornbread Connoisseur Package” gets you the works: a tasting ticket, a cornbread tin, a Cosmo Cornbread Coozie and a Cornbread Festival bottle opener. Oh, and the Arkansas Cornbread Festival is on a 5-year action plan toward being plastic-free, so if you’ve got a water bottle, bring it, and expect to see, as they put it on their website, “a refreshing absence of styrofoam.”
