“Boys to Black Men: The Seer is the Keeper of His Dreams”: Chrystal Seawood

By Leslie Newell Peacock

10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tue.-Fri., 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sat. Sept. 12-Nov. 16.

Chrystal Seawood, "Albert"

Chrystal Seawood, a native of Forrest City, lives in Washington, D.C., where she teaches English. She’s a self-taught artist who believes, her website bio says, that her work is an act of justice, primarily serving those whose identities have been typecast through the rendering of other people’s imaginations. Her show at the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas features portraits and interviews of young black men talking about how people see them.

Seawood holds a B.A. in digital art and design and was a graphic designer before going to work as a teacher.

A reception will be held 5-7 p.m. Sept. 12; Seawood will give a talk at 5:30 p.m.
