Jan. 16-March 7, Brad Cushman Gallery, Windgate Center for Art + Design, UA Little Rock. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sat.
The ceramics in this exhibition were built by 20th-century British ceramicists using a variety of techniques, including hand-building, slab-building, wheel-thrown, and Japanese neriage and nerikomi methods. The works are from the Arkansas Arts Center Foundation Collection, a majority of them gifts from the late Diane and Sanford “Sandy” Besser, well-known Arkansas collectors. A reception and lecture (“To the Moon and Beyond) with guest speaker Glenn Adamson of Yale University is set for 6-8:30 p.m. Jan. 30 at the Windgate Center for Art + Design, 101. A panel discussion (“Community in the Making: Expanding the Craft Field”) organized by Jen Padgett, assistant curator of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, with Adamson and Marilyn Zapf of the Center for Craft in Asheville, N.C., will be held at 10 a.m. Jan. 31. (Padgett and Adamson are also collaborating on an upcoming show at Crystal Bridges, “Craft,” to open Oct. 10.)
