“Crystals in Art: Ancient to Today”

It’s an exhibition appropriate for Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, this show featuring quartz crystals in art and as art, with engraved gems, figurines, contemporary art and more. The show’s 75 works centered around the rock the people of Arkansas are familiar with because of its occurrence in the Ouachita Mountains come from around the world, including ancient Egypt, Rome and China. Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art curator of contemporary art Lauren Haynes worked with guest curator Joachim Pissarro, Bershad Professor of Art History and Director of the Hunter College Galleries, Hunter College, CUNY/City University of New York, to select works for the show.

General admission to the show is $12.24 for nonmember adults.

Artists Miya Ando and Marilyn Minter will give a free talk about the show and their work at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11. Register online or by calling guest services, 479-657-2335.

Crystals mined by Avant Mining of Blue Springs, Arkansas, will be in the gift shop for show and sale 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Oct. 12-13.
