7 p.m.-10 p.m. Heifer International Campus. $45-$50.
This here isn’t your average petting zoo. Back for its third year, Heifer International’s Urban Farm Fest brings together local vendors, live music performances, outdoor fun and, of course, alpacas — all for a good cause. Founded to support Heifer USA on its quest to help small-scale Arkansas farmers earn a sustainable living, Urban Farm Fest gives locals a chance to learn more about sustainability efforts happening here in Arkansas.
Eventgoers can use this time as an opportunity to grow more familiar with the urban farm campus, a sprawling three-acre garden situated near Heifer’s downtown digs and whose barn is home to chickens, pigs and goats. Plus, in true sustainability fashion, much of the event features the use of environmentally friendly practices. You’ll find solar panels powering the line of food trucks, and all food waste ends up being composted. Warm up with an outdoor game of miniature bowling or cornhole at this fair, and cool down with the help of foamy brews provided by one of the many local breweries that’ll set up shop at the farm. Arrive hungry, and be sure to wear shoes you don’t mind getting a little dirty with hay. Did we mention there are alpacas? Grab tickets at heifer.org/urbanfarmfest.
