“Manga Hokusai Manga: Approaching the Master’s Compendium from the Perspective of Contemporary Comics” at Emergent Arts explores the influence of 18th- and 19th-century painter and illustrator Katsushika Hokusai on manga, the graphic art form unique to Japan. The exhibition, co-sponsored by The Japan Foundation and Hot Springs National Park Sister Ctiy Foundation, includes panels, books, videos and works by contemporary manga artists.
Manga is an all-encompassing cartoon art form in Japan, used in works of comedy, drama, horror, sci-fi, romance, detective and other genres. There will be an opening reception 5-8 p.m. Sept. 6 and a closing reception 5-8 p.m. Oct. 4 at Circle Gallery, Emergent Arts.
