Opening reception 5-9 p.m. Sept. 6, continues 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays through Sept. 28.
Minnesota printmaker Mike Marks’ work is inspired by his interest “in how nature is represented, the memory of place, and how history is ascribed into environment.” The result is fragmented, prismatic representations, rendered in a number of printmaking techniques, from collograph to stencils to intaglio. Marks, who holds a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art and an MFA from the University of Delaware, has also begun using printmaking plates that break down during the process of his mark-making, so that his process mimics his concerns of disappearing nature. The New Gallery will host a reception for the artist from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, as part of the SoMa After Dark monthly event. The gallery is open Saturdays only or by appointment.
