Terry McMillan, author of such blockbuster hits as “Waiting to Exhale” and “How Stella Got Her Groove Back,” both of which became motion pictures, is the Winthrop Rockefeller Distinguished Lecture Series lecturer at UAPB.
The university said McMillan will “share her experiences as one of the voices that helped shift the narrative surrounding black readers and their appreciation for black female protagonists in literature,” at the talk, “A Day with Terry McMillan.” She’ll autograph copies of her latest book, “I Almost Forgot About You,” after the lecture.
McMillan is an Essence Lifetime Award winner and has appeared on”Oprah,” “The View” and “The Daily Show.” The lecture series has featured some of the most important figures in contemporary life, including Dr. Cornel West, Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Julian Castro and Robert Menchu, among others.
